If you are thinking about it on paper, the bus running every half hour doesn’t sound so bad, until you’re waiting at the stop and you miss a bus or it’s delayed. Then you’re waiting a very, very long time. To people who never take transit, that’s probably fine. Why do you care. To people who only take transit, they’re expecting it, it’s baked in their lives. But the important part, what really impacts our cities, is what happens to people for whom transit is an option.

The spiral goes like this. You go to take the bus instead of driving, thinking “I’m going to o have a couple drinks” or “I don’t want to worry about parking where I’m going.” So you take bus. First bus is right on time. But then you transfer from your neighborhood line to the line that takes you where you actually want to go. And your bus is delayed. And it only comes every 30 minutes. And then you’re waiting, 40 minutes later, wondering where your bus is, knowing you could have driven there in 20 minutes.

Why would you ever chose to take a bus again? The bus made you waste precious time on your day off just sitting there. So next time you drive. Ridership goes down. When the transit authority asks for more money for more buses and more drivers, people point to the ridership numbers and say “why should we pay for this instead of paying for our schools/police/baseball stadium/parks/police again (let’s be real that’s who’s taking all the money)?” If we want to increase ridership we need to actually design and fund functional transit networks. If we want people to actually ride the bus we need to make it a better option than driving, which means reliable service, which you don’t get with a bus every 30 minutes.

Every 15 minutes, everywhere, all of the time.

I need to know if anyone else experiences this because I’m curious

I am currently coming off a really bad virus (not Covid but it’s hitting me damn hard anyway) and I am experiencing a symptom I have experienced many times in my life when my nose is blocked by the sick: ALL I CAN TASTE IS CAULIFLOWER.

This is why I hate Cauliflower. Because it’s exactly like the flavour of my phlegm when I am this kind of sick.

Do you get Cauliflower taste in your mouth when sick with head-cold sometimes

Yes I also get the Cauliflower sick taste I hate it

No what the actual fuck are you talking about

I’m a freak and I like the sick Cauliflower taste

I taste something else I hate when I’m sick

please rebagel whether you answer or not my blog is shadowbanned it won’t reach anyone otherwise and I want to know how fucked my immune response is to put this god-aweful taste in my mouth

Shadowbanning isn’t a thing on tumblr, it’s just the lack of an algorithm like other sites.

no it’s a thing, maybe not the same as other sites, but some blogs are harder to find and some can’t even be tagged, it could be an unintentional glitch but I’ve found it more common with nsfw blogs

just a reminder - do NOT boycott streaming services or not watch new things. the unions have not called for one for a reason. for one, it affects residual payments, which as minimal as those currently are, actors are still getting them during this time, and for two, studios will use lack of viewership as an excuse to cancel shows because you are showing them there is no demand. it deeply affects the industry the writers and actors stand to come back to once the strike is over

Also: going to these places puts pressure and demand on the company. Demand they can’t meet without actors and writers. That puts stress on them, and stress is good.

^^^^ive been looking for a rb with this addition because YES. if a customer wants a burger and there is no cook to make it, that puts pressure on the owner to pay the cook what they want so the customer will still give them money. if there is no customer, the owner has no reason for the cook to make burgers

Stop watching IF AND ONLY IF the unions call for a boycott. For the time being since they haven’t, streaming the shows actually helps. You’re not crossing a picket line to watch because that picket line does not exist unless a boycott is called for.

Do y’all think siblings in medieval times would look at the little beasts in illuminated manuscripts and point at each other like ‘ha! ‘Tis thou!’

I’ve seen Eowyn and Faramir’s love story classified as an example of Pair the Spares, and that’s totally inaccurate. Eowyn and Faramir are the love story of The Lord of the Rings. Arwen and Aragorn don’t count–they’re only in the appendix! Eowyn and Faramir’s story emerges from and completely ties into the main narrative. In only ten pages, it manages to be one of the greatest love stories of all time.

Eowyn starts out actively suicidal and he makes her want to live again! He falls in love pretty much at first sight. She begs him to let her go to battle, and he’s just like, “I’m stuck here, too. We’ll have to make the best of it together,” and asks her to help him recover. He tells her about his recurring dream, and he’s surprised that he said it, so you know it’s a big deal that he told her about it. He tells her that being with her makes him believe that no darkness can endure, then the exact moment after he kisses her brow, the Dark Lord is defeated! She stays in the city despite herself, even when she’s given leave to go to battle! He’s so gentle and understanding, but her pride makes her resent his pity until she learns that being loved in her weakness is not shameful but a beautiful gift. He makes speeches about how much he loves her and begs her to return his love! They kiss upon the wall in the sight of many, and he claims the shieldmaiden of the North despite the differences in their cultures!

In loving Aragorn, Eowyn wanted glory and renown and to be elevated above the drudgery of daily life into the realm of legend, but in loving Faramir, she wants that daily life, wants to exist here, now, with him, finding joy and peace and honor in the ordinary tasks of life in the ordinary moments of the day. It’s a beautiful character arc and a beautiful love story and I’m going crazy over it.
